Competence: As officers what is your ability to ability to both plan and fight at the tactical, strategic and operational levels.

Character: Character is not synonymous with personality; rather it is specifically focused on the trait of moral excellence and firmness. As such, the Army defines character as: “The dedication and adherence to the Army Ethic, including Army Values, as consistently and faithfully demonstrated in decisions and actions.” The attached article "Moral Reasoning as a Strategic Leader.   • Moral Reasoning as a Strategic Leader

Commitment: commitment is component with regard to influence as it is one of the three social-psychological outcomes of influence: commitment (I would love to do it), compliance (I will do it because you say so) and resistance (I will not do it). Leaders and influencers must horizontally connect with others to build hard-earned vertical commitment. "A Message from Garcia" looks at the commitment needed from both leaders and subordinates.
